Looking for Emotional Support That Actually Fits
You've probably been here before. Searching for a therapist, reading through websites, trying to figure out if this one might actually understand what you're going through. Maybe you've tried therapy in the past and it helped a little, but it never quite got to the root of things. Or maybe you've never been, and you're not sure what to expect.
What you do know is that something needs to change. The anxiety that follows you everywhere. The sadness that won't lift no matter what you try. The way your emotions can go from zero to a hundred before you even realize what's happening. The relationships that keep running into the same walls. You're tired of feeling stuck, tired of managing on your own, tired of wondering if this is just how life is going to be.
If this sounds familiar, you are in the right place.

Meet Dr. Suzannah Espinosa, Your Therapist in Ridgewood, NJ
Credentials: PhD in Psychology | DBT Certified Clinician | ART Trained | Licensed in NJ & NY
Dr. Suzannah Espinosa is the founder of Minisink Psychology & Psychotherapy. With over 20 years of clinical experience, she specializes in helping adults who struggle with intense emotions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and the patterns that keep them feeling trapped.

What sets her apart is not just her expertise, but her presence. She shows up as calm, steady, and real. Clients describe her as someone who genuinely gets it, who can sit with the hardest material without flinching, and who treats them as whole people rather than a set of symptoms to manage. Her approach is grounded in evidence-based methods, but it's her warmth and directness that make the work feel human.
A Path Shaped by Purpose
Dr. Espinosa's route to psychology wasn't a straight line. Her early career took her through chemistry and computer programming in the defense and aerospace industries. It was fulfilling in some ways, but something was missing. When she began volunteering at a crisis center in Denver, everything shifted. The intensity of that work didn't push her away; it drew her in. She knew she had found what she was meant to do.
That experience shaped how she practices today. She's comfortable in the places where other therapists sometimes pull back. Suicidal thoughts, self-harm, emotional intensity that feels unmanageable: these are not things that rattle her. She pursued DBT certification specifically because she saw what it could do for people who had been told they were "too much" or who hadn't found relief elsewhere. The investment of years in specialized training reflects a commitment to offering treatment that actually works.

A Collaborative Approach to Therapy
Therapy with us isn't about sitting back and listening passively while you figure things out alone. We're interactive. We pay attention, we remember your story, and we give back. Expect honest feedback, direct conversation, and a willingness to put the cards on the table and deal with them together.
Sessions feel grounded and steady. There's no rush, no pressure to perform wellness or pretend things are better than they are. You can bring the hard stuff here, including the thoughts you've never said out loud. We won't flinch, and we won't judge.
Our work is rooted in DBT, CBT, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy, but you don't need to know what those mean. What matters is that we use approaches proven to help people change. We teach skills you can actually use. We help you understand why your brain does what it does. Over time, many clients notice they feel more in control, more grounded, and more like the person they want to be.

Therapy for Adults Navigating Intense Emotions
We work best with adults who are ready to do the real work of therapy. Our clients are often intelligent, self-aware people who know something needs to change but haven't found the right help yet. Many have tried therapy before and felt it "touched on things" but never went deep enough.
We specialize in working with people who experience:
- Anxiety that never turns off, including panic attacks and constant worry
- Depression, hopelessness, or thoughts of not wanting to be here
- Trauma, whether from a single event or years of chronic stress
- Intense emotions that feel impossible to control
- Relationship patterns that keep repeating no matter what they try
- Self-harm or other behaviors they want to change
If you've been told you're "too much" or worried that your struggles are too intense for therapy, this practice was built for you.
