We all start this life with a family, whether the family is composed of blood relatives, adopted parents, or a foster family(ies). These unit(s) and interactions within them influences every aspect of our lives... who we become, the coping strategies we use to manage our emotions, stress, thoughts, behaviors, and choices. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, how to love, how to interact with others, and how we view the world around us from our family unit. Sometimes negotiating difficulties, complexities and challenges of life can leave us feeling lonely, frustrated and overwhelmed.
Minisink Psychology & Psychotherapy therapists who work with individuals, couples and families address feelings of connectedness and closeness in their relationships. Stronger, more secure relationships increase confidence, emotional security, and emotional well-being in the face of life's stressors. Our focus is on building the ability for family members to function well in the home and school environments. We work with parents and adolescents and children on strengthening parenting strategies, caring, connectedness, support, and belonging.
Our child and adolescent clients spend 45 minutes to 1 hour a week in our offices, and the remainder of their time in their outside environments... which includes a good amount of time in their homes and with their families. Thus, we believe that a commitment to treatment is necessary from not only our child and adolescent clients, but also from their parent(s) as well.
