Ani Mooney, LCSW, LCADC

"Life comes with many challenges. Sometimes it works out that we feel we have lost our way and are no longer on a path we envisioned for ourselves. Times like these can be accompanied by internal distress and angst.
My goal is to provide a comforting and safe space to explore these emotions, explore what is happening in your life now. My goal is to help you set yourself free from the angst and internal distress."

Adolescent Therapy

Ani sees adolescents, young adults and families in our Ridgewood office.

Ani is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working in the field of mental health since 2002.  She received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University, and then followed up with further education, training, and certification in substance abuse.  Currently, she is in the process of completing a Post-Master’s certificate program in Clinical Practice with Adolescents at New York University.

Ani has worked in various settings such as inpatient and outpatient services, community mental health agencies, in-home services, and high schools.  She loves working with adolescents, adults, and young adults; and her clients and students often feel like she "just gets me".  Ani employs an integrative approach to treatment based on the needs of the individual and family.  Her therapeutic approach is based on the widely researched and evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and a strong focus on teaching mindfulness skills.  She holds an empathic, sincere, and non-judgmental space so that teens and their families can cultivate their strengths and feel empowered to make any necessary changes.

Coping skills

Ani's philosophy centers around the fact that adolescents are in the midst of a unique journey in their life.  They face outside pressures from society, family and friends about how they should act, look or feel.  Navigating through the images, messages, and unspoken rules about what it means to be a teenager can be challenging.  She believes that when teenagers reach these challenging points, it is powerful to reach out to someone who is outside their immediate circle.  Ani would be honored to be that "outside person".
